"Dendritic Cells as Pivotal Players in the Pathogenesis of Lupus Nephritis"

2007 Novel Pilot Projects Program

This grant award was made possible by the support of the Louis Berkowitz Family Foundation

Glomerulonephritis is the leading cause of long-term disability in SLE patients. Type I Interferons is a family of cytakines that are over-expressed in lupus autoimmunity and required for AutoAb production. We intend to determine the role of Type I interferons produced by dendritic cells in the development of the kidney damage in Glomerulonephritis. Breaking this vicious circle would lead to improvement or remission of the disease.
