We view our advocacy role as being of critical importance in the fight against lupus.  The Foundation engages policymakers at the federal and state levels in discussion and education about lupus and its social and economic impacts on society. Our approach consists of:

  • Encouraging the expansion of federal research funds to promote basic, clinical, translational, epidemiological, behavioral, and social research on lupus.
  • Stimulating programs, such as public and professional education campaigns, that increase awareness about lupus.
  • Informing the regulatory processes for new drug development and approval.
  • Stimulating policies that improve access to care and medications, such as those regarding:
    • Prescription drug coverage
    • Public (Medicare/Medicaid) and private insurance coverage
    • Social Security Disability
